Meet MOOSE
MOOSE is a 4-year-old male Great Pyrenees mix who weighs 55 lbs. He's short and stocky, and he has a beautiful white coat. His special need? He's deaf. He's very comfortable with this and was probably born that way. He was picked up as a stray with his best friend, Sally. They get along great so we feel Moose could go into a home with another female dog. He's fully vetted and is heartworm negative.
Moose's perfect home will be with someone who has experience with deaf dogs. The home must have a fenced back yard. Older children who can respect Moose's needs would be fine, too.
Being deaf is by no means the end of the world for a dog; they primarily use their nose to navigate. Moose's nose tells him who and where things are. If he's sleeping, you can prevent startling him by using a scent to alert. If you want to train him, you can use scent cues to communicate. Visual cues are okay, too, but he's not great at making eye contact.
Moose needs a fenced yard. He can't hear cars coming, and he needs a place to run off energy. Sally, his shelter buddy, has become a good friend, and, while we don't think they're bonded, another compatible dog for Moose would be great.
